How to obtain a copy of a public record in Nebraska
Either (1.) go to the government office that has the record during regular business hours and request a copy; or (2.) make a written request to the government office that has the record.

The definition of a public record:
In Nebraska, all government records are public except those specifically exempted from public disclosure by law. Records that are not public records include personal information in educational records, medical records, trade secrets, academic and scientific research work, the work product of an attorney, law enforcement investigations, appraisals, and security.

Fees:
The government body may charge a fee for copies of the public record, not to exceed the actual cost of making the copies.

What to do if access to a public record is denied:
You may write to the Nebraska Attorney General and ask for a ruling. (There is no charge for this service.) Or, you may file a lawsuit against the government official who has the record.
